   A Letter from the Principal...

On behalf of the students, parents and staff at Black Rock Primary School I would like to welcome you to our website.

Black Rock Primary School is located in Arkaringa Crescent, Black Rock which is a South Eastern suburb of Melbourne. The school is situated in a unique bayside setting. It is bordered by Port Phillip Bay to the west and Royal Melbourne and Sandringham Golf Clubs to the east. The environment is secure for its students and provides excellent recreational and sporting facilities with its adventure playgrounds and full - sized oval.

The school community is both progressive and committed to ensuring that Black Rock Primary students receive the best education available. The school’s learning and teaching programs are based on the belief that every student has the ability and the right to develop and progress at his/her own rate and to learn in an independent and happy environment. Students are encouraged to take risks with their learning, to be independent thinkers and to display initiative. Cooperation and teamwork are valued and the school has high expectations of its students in their academic, creative and physical endeavours.

Parents, students and staff work in partnership to provide a safe, caring and challenging environment with a significant emphasis on fostering self-esteem. A range of structures and programs to cater for individual differences are in place at the school. All children have Individual Learning Improvement Plans, the Thinking Curriculum is a priority, there is parallel learning in years 5 and 6, a SEAL (Selected Entry for Accelerated Learners) program operates in the grade 3/4 area. Support programs such as Reading Recovery, Maths Intervention and Language Support are provided and the Information Technology program caters for differing abilities and particular needs and talents.

Black Rock Primary School takes pride in providing an exciting and stimulating environment that equips each child to meet the challenges of the 21st Century. To assist this process the school encourages the establishment of a partnership between home and school that focuses on the individual development and extension of each child in all aspects of growth.

The aim of the Black Rock School Community is to provide a dynamic learning climate that engages students to achieve their personal best in an atmosphere of mutual respect and cooperation towards society and the environment
