Purpose
Black
Rock Primary School has a responsibility to provide a range of
opportunities that enable each student to experience success and to
develop to his/her fullest potential.
This
program is designed to allow for the enhancement of learning in
those students experiencing difficulty, and for students with gifts
and talents that set them apart from their chronological age peer
group.
This
policy should be read in line with Theory of Learning for B.R.P.S.
and the Assessment Policy and Student Welfare Policy.
Guidelines
1.
Students
to be catered for within the program will be identified in various
ways:

Previous
year’s classroom teacher
·
Current
year’s classroom teacher
·
Parental
concern - via appropriate channels. e.g. Principal, classroom
teacher
·
School
reports (new students to school)
·
New
students with no supporting documentation, particularly from
overseas.
2.
The
process of referral and testing will be carried out according to the
following steps:

On occasions reading may be included as a Home Task. The
initial identification, referral, testing results and
recommendations, program outline, evaluation of students' learning
outcome and program effectiveness will be documented by those
appropriate and be collected by the Special Needs co-ordinator.
4.
If
after testing, a student becomes part of the Special Needs program,
parents will be contacted and an outline of the child's program
given to them.
5.
The
Special Needs program will use as a basis, the C&SF support
documents and be flexible in implementation.

The
program's implementation may include:

in the classroom
·
Small
group withdrawal
